Peach and Blueberry Oatmeal Crumble

Peach and Blueberry Oatmeal Cobbler 10

Is Summer really over? I’m not complaining, BTW! In South Florida we have two seasons, HOT and perfect. Our summers are pretty miserable. Our winters are awesome. It’s like Fall weather for 4-6 months.

But the end of summer does mean the end of some of my favorite seasonal foods. Sweet watermelon and juicy peaches are two of our favorites. Yea, you can find both during the winter, but they’re not a juicy and sweet.

We’ve consumed our body weight plus some in both this summer. And I’ve shared a bunch of peach recipes this year! I even started freezing some of the peaches that were going bad, so we can enjoy them in the months to come.

Even though summer has come to an end, this recipe is great any time. The warm oatmeal crumble reminded me of a fall dessert. I’m actually planning to make this with apples soon.

The beer I used was a seasonal beer we found at Total Wine a couple weeks ago, Terrapin’s Maggie’s Peach Farmhouse Ale. Interesting fact, they used 1,000 pounds of peaches per 100bbl batch. That’s a bunch of peaches! And you could really smell them. The beer was light and refreshing with a little tartness or maybe bitterness. I honestly can’t remember. I should start keeping tasting notes with my recipes! Either way it was a nice beer.

A blueberry flavored beer would pair nice with this dish as well. I listed a few recommendations below.

Other Beer To Try:

Peach and Blueberry Oatmeal Crumble

Serves 6 Servings
Prep time 10 minutes
Cook time 35 minutes
Total time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • FILLING
  • 4 Medium Peaches (Fresh or Frozen Sliced {About 16 ounces})
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries (Fresh or Frozen)
  • 1/8 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Fruit Beer
  • CRUMBLE
  • 1 cup Quick Cooking Oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/8 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Melted Butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine Peaches, Blueberries, Brown Sugar. If using frozen fruit, I recommend thawing the fruit before hand. In a small bowl, combined the cornstarch and beer. Stir to remove any lumps. Add the beer to the fruit mixture, then add to a large baking or pie dish.
In another bowl, combined the Oatmeal, Flour, Sugar, and Cinnamon. Add butter and make sure to fully combine. I used a fork and my hands. You want all the flour to have a damp look to it.
Sprinkle the crumble evenly over the top of the fruit. Place in the middle rack, and cook for 30-35 minutes or until the filling is bubbling and the top is golden brown. Serve warm.

Beer and… Yea Just Beer!

Yesterday, Huck and I went to Downtown Abacoa for Baseball and Brews at The Roger Dean Stadium. For $20 we got tickets to the baseball game and beer festival. We have been talking about going to a baseball game since we moved here, but for one reason or another, we haven’t. We met Deena and some other girls I met on our Magic Mike Night there and were ready for some beer. As we were in line to go in, I noticed this sign.

Does this make anyone else feel old??

We were provided a cup and headed for the beer tents.

The beer festival was from 530-830 and the game started at 630. We thought we would drink some beer, watch the game, and drink more beer.

At some point, we walked over to the game to see what was going on.

There was NO ONE watching the game.

Everyone was drinking beer. We felt bad for the players because they were stuck playing instead of drinking beer.  We never made it back to the game.

Huck and I shared a hotdog at some point. I was hungry and heavy beer can make me feel sick on an empty stomach. Hotdog was probably not the best option but it worked.

My favorite Picture from the night!

After the hotdog break, it was back to more beer.  My favorite of the day was Terrapin Brewery Easy Rider. It is a Hopped Up Summer Ale. It was very flavorful but still light. Right up my alley, and I have to represent my local brewery.

** One year for Valentines Day, I told Huck we were going to a play but I wouldn’t tell him where or when. I wanted him to think we were doing something “boring”. Really, I planned for us to go to Terrapin Brewery for a tour and beer sampling. Yes, I am the best girlfriend/fiancée/almost wife ever! He was excited and we both had fun. I recommend a trip if you are ever in Athens, GA.**

By the time the beer festival was over, things started looking fuzzy…

We walked to Jumby Bay for more beer. I had one and threw in the towel. I was done! Deena’s friend ordered 2 plates of nachos for the table and they were the best nachos ever (and I do not think it was because I was drunk and hungry. They were really good!!) Around 11PM, Huck and I walked home and called it a night.

This morning, we woke up feeling surprisingly good, when Nate called and asked if we wanted to go out on his boat. Sounded like a plan to me!

We did a little house hunting while we were out too. I think this one would doSmile

And this boat is bigger than our house!

We parked and did some snorkeling, too. Luckily I brought our water proof camera. Even though this was the only picture that came out.

After getting off the boat we were hungry! We stopped by Bumboo Wok. I ordered Shrimp and Veggies.

Huck ordered Celery and Shrimp Kung Pao Shrimp. They both were good minus all the celery.

Now it is time to be lazy! I’m stuck watching How States Got Their Shapes now. I find this show very interesting.
