A couple days ago, I was sitting at my computer, annoyed with work. I received a phone call from my friend Holly.
Holly sounded really excited and wanted to know if I was doing anything Sunday. Huck was planning to brew beer, and I really didn’t want to sit around all day for that.
She then told me she found an art contest where you build a piece of art using trash. I agreed mainly because she sounded so excited about it. And I figured it would make a good New Activity of the Week.
Our team consisted of Me, Holly, Karl, and Deborah.
The Challenge: Create a literary-inspired landscape/garden/outdoor space out of paper and wood products.
The only thing that came to my mind was an enchanted forest. We had some bowl shaped packaging material, and someone though we could make them into mushrooms with our Psychedelic Duct Tape…
And that is how Alice in Wasteland was born. I loved the name!
Oh and yes, we were the Florida Brewers. Holly just said the first thing that came to mind.
Our display had to be 5 feet tall with a 5×5 base. We could only use the materials provided and everyone received the same stuff. Most of the supplies were shipping material.
We decided to make a tree to reach our height requirement.
A taped all the mushrooms. I now have no skin left on my finger tips.
Our caterpillar and Alice were more abstract. I used egg crates to make the boobs for Alice’s body. And our Caterpillar looked like a body taped to the tree :)
Of course the Florida Brewers had to have beer!
Our special art project came in 1st place! WOW!!!
We were super excited!!
It was a fun way to spent the morning. I really enjoyed being creative! The Director at Resource Depot told us they would have our project on display. I’m not sure where though.
The only complaint about the project, it was SO COLD!! It was in the 50’s today and very windy.
Now, I’m off to bed. I’ve had a long weekend!
